Mike is a Managing Director for Slate Asset Management, a global investment and asset management firm based in Toronto, Canada with over $10Bn in assets under management.  Mike has over 28 years of experience in the real estate industry in various capacities, including investment banking, private equity, and financing.  In his current role, Mike manages Slate Real Estate Capital L.P., a vehicle focused primarily on fixed income and structured product investments in real estate, where he handles investment strategy, originations, and asset management.

Prior to joining Slate, Mike was co-head of Annaly Capital’s commercial real estate platform for over seven years, focused on the strategic direction of the business and leading the investment of over $3.5Bn of new investments during that time.  Prior to Annaly, Mike worked for Morgan Stanley’s Real Estate Investing business for over 12 years, leading east coast acquisitions for the Morgan Stanley Real Estate Fund (MSREF).  Mike also worked as an associate for Security Capital Group, and started his career as an analyst in Dean Witter’s investment banking group in 1994.

Mike graduated cum laude from the University of Notre Dame in 1994 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and a minor in Computer Applications.  Mike has served in various roles for several industry organizations, including ICSC, ULI, and AHLA.
